About
Our Council The Henry Munro school council is an active and energetic body of volunteers that advocates on behalf of the school community in the operation, maintenance and performance of the school. Our goal is to enhance the educational experience for all students so that each can reach his or her potential in a welcoming environment that is conducive to learning.
The council is comprised of up to 21 members, consisting of the principal, a teacher rep, and administrative staff rep, a community rep and a number of parent volunteers who fill the positions of Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and members at large. Elections are held each year within 30 days of the start of the school year. All parents are eligible to become members. Following the election, council meets once each month at the school.
Our School Our school is named after Henry Munro, the descendant of a United Empire Loyalist who at one time owned the land that our school was built on. The first phase of Henry Munro School was constructed in 1966, with an addition completed in 1969. In 2006, Henry Munro Middle School celebrates its 40th Anniversary.
Our Mission Statement is “To develop and provide to each adolescent learner an education of the highest quality in a positive multicultural environment, with caring staff members focusing on the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of the student.”
• Our school won the “Most Welcoming School Award” in the OCDSB by the Occasional Teachers Federation in 2005-2006.
Our Students • Henry Munro has an enrolment of 525 students with ethnic and linguistic backgrounds representing over 30 countries. In addition to English and French, additional languages spoken by our students and their parents include Arabic, Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese, Somali, Spanish, Russian, Kurdish, Punjabi, Farsi, Urdu, and Vietnamese. • Our students come to us primarily from three kindergarten to grade 5 elementary schools: Carson Grove, Le Phare and Robert Hopkins. When our students graduate from Henry Munro they usually go to either Gloucester, Colonel By or Rideau Secondary schools.
Our Staff • Henry Munro has 40 professional and dedicated teachers, educational assistants, administrative, and custodial staff, all of who work hard to improve and sustain the learning environment of our many learners. • As a result of a unique
